Town of Clarkdale Board & Commission Vacancies 2012
Volunteers are needed to apply for Board and Commission vacancies. Now is your chance to make a difference in your community and help guide the future of Clarkdale. We are requesting applications for the following Board and Commission appointments:
Design Review Board – Two (2) terms Library Advisory Board – Three (3) terms Parks and Recreation Commission – Two (2) terms Planning Commission – Three (3) terms Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board – One (1) term
The only qualification for applicants is that they must reside within the Clarkdale Town Limits. Boards and Commissions usually meet once per month but can meet more or less often depending on Town Business. A description of boards and commissions is listed below.
Applications are due by August 20, 2012. Applications are also available at the Administration Building, 39 N. Ninth St. Clarkdale, AZ 86324. Return completed applications to the Clarkdale Administration Building. For information please contact MaryEllen.dunn@clarkdale.az.gov 928.639.2400.
Board of Adjustment The Board of Adjustment is a judicial body which has powers and duties prescribed by law and ordinance including: 1) To hear and decide appeals to administrative decisions; 2) To interpret the boundaries of zoning districts; 3) To hear and decide variances; 4) To permit the extension of nonconforming uses. This Board currently meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Design Review Board The Design Review Board reviews the exterior design of proposed new buildings, proposed alterations to buildings, excluding single-family residences, and major development or redevelopment projects, to assure that they are compatible with the surrounding environment and to preserve and protect the integrity and character of the Town. This Board currently meets on the first Wednesday of each month.
Library Advisory Board The Library Advisory Board advises the Council and staff regarding the Clark Memorial Library. In addition to meetings, members participate in two (2) main fundraising events for the library each year – a Fourth of July ice cream social and a book sale in December. This Board currently meets on the first Thursday of May, July, September, November, January, and March.
Parks and Recreation Commission The Parks and Recreation Commission is an advisory body to the Town Council on park development, recreational activities, programming, and community services. In addition to meetings, members participate with the Fourth of July festivities, Halloween and Christmas events, and approximately eight (8) concerts in the park each year. This Commission currently meets on the second Wednesday of each month. Planning Commission The Planning Commission is an advisory Commission that makes recommendations to the Town Council. The Commission reviews all long- range plans for the Town, including the General Plan, specific plans, and rezoning. It also bears the primary responsibility for the initial review of larger developments, including applications for preliminary plats. Furthermore, the Commission makes recommendations to the Town Council on planning policies. This Commission currently meets on the third Tuesday of each month.
Municipal Property Corporation The Municipal Property Corporation is a non-profit organization that is an “affiliate of the governmental unit”. The charge of the MPC is to finance the cost of acquisition, construction and equipping of certain facilities by the Town of Clarkdale. The MPC normally meets once a year, however if the Town is obtaining financing through the MPC additional meetings would be scheduled.
Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board The Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board oversees the retirement pension fund for the Town’s police officers. This Board consists of the Mayor (or designee), two police officers, and two citizens. The Board usually meets once or twice a year. The Board oversees the retirement system, determines questions with regard to eligibility and service credits, reviews financial reports, and issues directions concerning benefits to be paid.
